The Charles J Andrew Youth Treatment Centre has two components to its treatment plan, a Clinical component and a Nutshimit component. Each component runs on alternating weeks.
Clinical Program Objectives The objective of the Clinical portion of the program, is to empower aboriginal youth through the provision of a treatment program which includes a holistic healing program with pre-and post treatment programs. The programs are strongly influenced by traditional aboriginal values, beliefs and practices. Spiritually and a reconnection to the land are key components in nurturing and building self-confidence and developing skills among youth to help reach their full potential as community members.
Individual Treatment Plan The Counsellor is responsible for reviewing the assessment and the initial treatment plan completed by the Youth Case Manager and for further developing the treatment plan. He/she follows through with the goals and actions with the individual youth assigned to his/her caseload. All treatment activities and actions are noted on the youth's file.
Programming The program schedule is drawn-up by the treatment team in advance of a block session and it is agreed upon at the consultation meetings. The schedule is to allow for treatment, life skills training, group work, individual counselling, schooling, cultural activities and recreation. Although the need for 'down time' is recognized it should be scheduled into short time-frames.
Family Relations The Centre is committed to strengthening family relations and in obtaining their commitment to the youth's treatment process. Treatment is designed to enhance family functioning and support as long as it is in the best interest of the child. Youth are entitled to visits from family members and close friends at times outside of treatment programming. Visitors are expected to sign into the daily log and abide by the rules of the Centre. Arrangement may be made for visits in a private space and, on occasion a family member from out of town may stay over at the Centre. |
